Everyone and their dog ( and some of the articles sure look like dogs wrote them) these days seems to be getting into article writing and marketing in one way or the other. Cheap way to drive traffic ( who ever said time was cheap?), great results and simple to do, right? Wrong.

Article marketing is a great method for driving traffic to your site if its done right but many people make many mistakes along the way. If you are doing the bum marketing way, there are a lot of mistakes to be had in the general information you are given.

Some directories allow you to submit your affiliate link. This is one of the worst things they could ever allow. Why? Well think about it, the program you are pushing so hard is gone tomorrow, the last 6 months you have written for it and about it are all wiped away. No longer do any of your links go anywhere or worse they go to a pay your bill hosting page. That looks good on you, right?

Instead of turning your customers away never to be seen again, capitalize on them, get them to give you their email address, subscribe to your list. After all, you are a writer, entice them to join you with a free report or e-book. The money is in the list and you will only have a list if you point to your own site. This time, if the program goes belly up you are still in control, you throw up a new product in the same niche and you are not out any time.

So you’re broke, what then? Well set up a free blog, set up a lens do whatever you can for the time being but the sooner you can get your own hosting and domain the better. You don’t want to leave your financial future in someone else’s hands. Take control of your life, of your business.

If you want to be a writer, be one, but treat it as a business. Poor decisions will cost you future profits and customers. Be wise in the choices you make and the product your promote. Do your research and above all love what you do and it all will fall into place in the end.
